A Tribute to Dolly

            

Her parents were ranch dogs,

They worked the big cows.

She tried it once,

Just to show she knew how.

But her life was her sheep,

It’s what she did best.

From morning ‘til night,

She’d stare without rest.

“C’mon, let’s go feed them,

Or let me just chase,

No one can move them,

                                                                           At my break neck pace.”

                                                                        Some thought her herding,

                                                                          Too reckless, too wild.

                                                                              Because she worked her sheep

                                                                          With the joy of a child.

                                                           Now Dolly is tired,

                                                                              And has lay down to sleep.

                                                                     But forever in our hearts,

                                                                               She’ll be watching her sheep.
